SEPTEMBER 2015

We hope you will come along to Abernethy Horticultural Society’s Seventh Annual Garden Day on Saturday 26th September from 2pm-4pm at the Williamson Hall. All money raised on the day will go towards projects being undertaken by the Horticultural Society and Abernethy In Bloom to enhance the village environs, including the ongoing renovations of Nurse Peattie’s Garden. All the old favourite stalls will be back again with plants for sale, local produce to buy and taste, raffle, seed swap, bottle stall, games for children and more. Also back again are our ever popular Best in Village Prize Competitions. The categories this year are:
1. Late summer flower arrangement.
2. Jar of jam.
3. Jar of pickle or preserve.
4. Cake incorporating fruit or vegetables.
5. Fruit or vegetable based beverage/cordial (alcohol-free).
6. Fruit or vegetable based beverage/cordial (with alcohol).

There are also age-grouped competitions for children where the theme this year is a Walk on the Wild Side.
Ages 2-4, 5-6 & 7-8:
1. Create a wild Character from an old shoe, glove or sock. It can be planted up, decorated and painted.
2. Decorate a vegetable to look like an insect.
Ages 9-10, 11-12 & 13-16:
1. Create a wild Character from an old shoe, glove or sock. It can be planted up, decorated and painted.
2. Decorate a plant pot using paint, seeds, leaves, dried food etc. The competitions are open to all so why not give it a go?

Please bring your entries to the hall on the morning of the 26th between 10.00 and 11.30am.

Entrance to Garden Day is £2.50, which includes tea/coffee and a choice from a selection of cakes and bakes.
Entrance is free for children and for members of Abernethy Horticultural Society.

If you would like to help out with Garden Day there will be an open meeting for volunteers on Wed 26th August at 7.30pm in the Masons Hall. We would also be very grateful for any donations you can make for the various stalls or raffle prizes. Notices of when and where to bring donations will be posted nearer the time on our website - www.abernethyhorticultural.co.uk - and on the village notice board, alternatively please get in touch by email at abernethyhorticultural@googlemail.com or call Chris Farmer on 01738 851 001.
