SAD NEWS

We received the following communication from the Abernethy Horticultural Society email address. We presume that this is not a hoax and is an accurate notice of the sad decline of another village institution.

“Could you please include the following notice from the (ex) committee of the Abernethy Horticultural Society in the next issue of the Crier (and also update the club & organisation contact info page to show that the society is now disbanded.

Thanks

Abernethy Horticultural Society Dissolved

Prior to the pandemic, there was a general feeling among members that the Horticultural Society may have run its natural course. Efforts were made to re-invigorate the society, but ultimately these were all stymied by covid. All momentum was eventually exhausted and at an AGM held on 29th May 2022 no one was willing to stand for election to form a new committee. In accordance with the constitution, the society was therefore dissolved and all remaining funds were donated to Abernethy in Bloom. It is fortuitous to have such an appropriate beneficiary in Abernethy in Bloom, which originated as an offshoot of the society and has since firmly taken root and continues to flourish. It is impossible to adequately acknowledge all the activities of the society and the individuals who supported them, so will simply say a big thank you to all who contributed to the talks, garden days, visits and various other projects over the years.
This was not the first incarnation of the Abernethy Horticultural Society
to have come and gone, and who knows, maybe it won't be the last?”
