JUNE 2013

In March our AGM was held and a new committee  (Ian, Caroline, Margaret, Susan, Bill, Jane and Rachel B) was elected.  Leaving the committee are Claire, Keir, Liz and Rachel K. On behalf of the members we thank them for their continued support and hard work during their extended time in the running of the AHS.

In February we had a very interesting talk from Steve Mcnamara, Head gardener at Branklyn Gardens in Perth.  They are local to our community and would be well worth a visit during the coming season.

Following the AGM in March Geoff Bereton advised on how to get the perfect lawn. Also in March a number of us attended an Apple Grafting Workshop held by Gerben de Vries at Auchtermuchty.  We all came away with two grafts and I am advised that Bill, won the bottle of wine donated by Susan, for the first person to see that their grafting technique had been successful.  Some of us are still waiting for signs of a new apple tree in the making!

In April Abernethy’s own Les Bisset completed a successful season of talks by sharing his passion for all things related to trees and things.

The new committee will be getting together over the coming months to plan a new and exciting programme starting in the Autumn and make a note in your diaries for our Annual Garden Day on the last Saturday in  September.

We still have our Road Trip to come.  This will be to Drummond Castle Gardens on the 11th May when we hope to repeat the wonderful day out we had last year.

As part of our projects within the community we will continue to maintain Nurse Peatties garden. A number of improvements were made to the Garden last year with the addition of a variety of plants and flowers which we should see in full bloom this year.

Notice of all our events can be found on the village notice boards,  in the shop, tearoom and the Perth Advertiser.  Details of events will also be given on our Facebook page, Abernethy Horticultural Society and in an e-mail to all our members.  We are always pleased to see new members joining us and  non-members are welcome to come along to meetings and see what we are up to.   You can also join our mailing list and receive email updates. For more information, contact me on 850186 or Caroline on 851190 and/or 07951 742618 or abernethyhorticulture@gmail.co.uk

Wishing  everyone fine weather and good gardening.
