GUIDES

Abernethy Guides Morven Graham and Eilidh Simpson have been awarded the highest award a Guide can achieve. In June there was a special Guide meeting when parents came and joined the Guides in forming a horseshoe and taking part in a Guide meeting.

Morven and Eilidh, now aged 13, both joined the Guide movement as Rainbows at 5 years old. They became Brownies age 7 and then Guides. They have been working for over a year towards the Baden-Powell Challenge Award which consists of ten challenges in five categories. They worked at Healthy Lifestyle, Global Awareness, Discovery, Interpersonal Skills and Celebrating Diversity. These all culminated in an adventure day when they scaled climbing walls and completed a high ropes walk.

Lorna Baird was the last Abernethy Guide to win this award and that was 22 years ago. The award was presented by proud Guiders Jane Brown and Debbie Murchie who run the Abernethy Company between them. Jane is also Landward Divisional Commissioner with responsibility for Perthshire from the Carse of Gowrie to Balbeggie.

After the Award Ceremony a large and magnificent cake was cut by Morven and Eilidh and thoroughly enjoyed, with a cup of tea, by the assembled guests.
